The beginning:
I forgot some leftovers in the sink of tomatoes, nashi pear, carrots, and more. After perhaps 4-5 days I saw that the upper section of a cut carrot started to sprout. I took it out of the sink and placed it on my kitchen marble in a safe place. I cannot remember if on the same time or the day after I though of placing it in an plastic ‘plate’ and sunk in in a shallow water that it will not wither and dry. The day (or 2 days) after I also added little bit of sugar and instant coffee like ‘fertilizing’ – As shown on the images ahead (Oct 24 & 25, 2025)!
I decided to purchase some soil (a dry soil in this case) on Oct 28, 2025.
Sprouting Carrot – Oct 31, 2025 – Pottering:
The dry soil arrived onย Oct 31, 2025 at 14:06. Later I have planted (basically, placed) those carrot in the soil with an organic mixture that I added for additional support.
Sprouting Carrot – Nov 1, 2025 – Excess Water:
In the afternoon/evening there was a shower of rain, not particularly long, I went out to the balcony to check on the carrots and discovered to my surprise that in the pot, the peat soil had swollen to its brim. I was surprised because I had placed the pot far from the edge of the balcony and close to the patio door so that the awning was supposed to cover it well. Apparently drops arrived or perhaps due to humidity from the air and wind, additional water managed to reach. I had to drill 2 holes, that in retrospect I forgot to apply, to remove excess water.

Update – 7 November:
Update – 12 November – 3 Garlic Cloves:
*
I forgot a garlic bulb inside a closed nylon bag in my refrigerator, perhaps for at least a full month. I took it out today, and surprisingly, the entire bulb was intact with no signs of being rotten or anything else. At the bottom, I saw that about 1/2 inch long roots had already grown. I decided to do the same again as I did with the carrots, and for now, only one of them survived and is still growing quite nicely.
