In The Pursuit Of Justice: Studies In Crime And Law Enforcement In Israel

The book before us, “Pursuing Justice: Studies in Crime and Law Enforcement in Israel,” is a debut book by the Department of Criminology and Law Enforcement at Beit Berl Academic College. It includes a collection of articles by authors who combine academic knowledge with field experience and come from the fields of research, judgment, and treatment. The articles discuss issues related to social deviance, its causes, and its prevention. In particular, the title of the book emphasizes an issue that does not receive sufficient attention in criminological writing in Israel – the extent to which systems for treating social deviance do criminal justice to the perpetrator and the victim.

The book offers academics a study and discussion of the phenomena of deviance, delinquency, and crime in the State of Israel, while linking academic knowledge to the world of those who actually deal with delinquency – police officers, judges, and treatment personnel.

To facilitate reading the book, the extensive material is divided into five chapters, each of which embodies a unique topic, all of which together form one complete treatise that touches on various aspects of criminological research.

About the editors:
Dr. Levi Eden – Lectures at Beit Berl College in the integrated track with the Open University for Criminology and Law Enforcement. Formerly a police officer in field positions. His last position was head of the youth delinquency section at the national headquarters of the Israel Police, and then he dealt with the treatment and rehabilitation of delinquent youth, first as director of a boarding school and then as head of the youth probation service.

Dr. Aralah Shadmi – Lecturer at Beit Berl College in the integrated track with the Open University for Criminology and Law Enforcement. Head of the Women’s and Gender Studies track founded by Vicky Shiran. Former senior officer in the Israel Police.

Dr. Israel Kim – The initiator of the book. Head of the Criminology and Law Enforcement track at Beit Berl College, which is integrated with the Open University.

הספר שלפנינו, “רודפי צדק: מחקרים בפשיעה ואכיפת חוק בישראל”, הוא ספר ביכורים של החוג לקרימינולוגיה ואכיפת החוק במכללה האקדמית בית ברל. הוא כולל אסופת מאמרים פרי עטם של מחברים, המשלבים ידע אקדמי עם ניסיון עבודה בשטח והבאים מתחומי המחקר, השיפוט והטיפול,. המאמרים דנים בסוגיות הקשורות בסטייה חברתית, גורמיה ומניעתה. במיוחד שם הספר דגש על סוגיה, שאינה זוכה לתשומת לב מספקת בכתיבה הקרימינולוגית בישראל – עד כמה מערכות הטיפול בסטייה חברתית עושות צדק פלילי עם העבריין והקרבן.

הספר מציע לאנשי אקדמיה עיון ודיון בתופעות הסטייה, העבריינות והפשיעה במדינת ישראל, תוך שהוא מקשר בין הידע האקדמי לעולמם של העוסקים בפועל בעבריינות – שוטרים, שופטים ואנשי טיפול.
