This post started as an update, but it has evolved into a combination of several updates regarding the building process of this website, specifically the art section, and what it holds, along with relevant information such as my father’s autobiography and more.
Its been a while from where I launched my website (10/1/2025) till today (11/28/2025), but lets start from the beginning.
I started to different things with my parents at around 2022/3, at that point, they were 80 years old. Also, at that point, I was after my 2nd degree, BSc in Life Sciences. I went to invest time with my parent, doing personal projects, trying to find what should be the next chapter after the 2nd degree (i.e. job, or…), I stated to dig into history (like explorer) that naturally follows with digital image restorations. As such, also naturally, little after (somewhere around 2023), I have returned to may art.
I started to document all of the art pieces of me and my father, taking pictures of them, writing full analysis, in order to write a book. Eventually, at _____ I pretty much finished documenting all the my father’s pieces and about perhaps 30% of mine. I had to put this on hold because of my relocation, and have returned to it at around ______ (UH) for only a few months.
Than, came a _______________ period PTSD_______
Naturally, afterwards, I have decided to create a website of mine. I first launch it on July 2025 but it didn’t worked out and decided to delete it (this is why you can’t see it now – Here are a few survived screenshots that I have from it – Welcome). I was frustrated because I wanted this playground but I could figure out what to do. Eventually, I have asked a friend if he knows a web designer, he sent me to someone who is reliable, professional and also an artist. From that point, after, conversations, meetings and follow-ups, the website was done, and we launch in on October 1, 2025.
This website main idea was to be able to “showcase my portfolio” but it continued and developed also into a personal blog and “as a planform to present cool and meaningful stuff”.
Here is what my website has to offer:

My father received his BSc (Nature Studies + sub concentrationΒ in Sociology) in 1969 at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) and MA in Sociology ([Research]) in 1975 at Saint Louis University (SLU) and was already in the midst of his PhD but, had to return home to help his sick parents. At that point he married my mother and started to build a family. Eventually, about 15 years after, in 1989, he finished it, PhD in Sociology (and Anthropology). His course of study throughout all of his studies was Sociology with a concentration in Criminology. Years after that, in 2004 he also received his professorship in Sociology and Criminology.
Most of the art pieces he had, he could not take with him and thereby only few somehow survived and are being documented (or preserved) in his albums from that time – This was around 1970Β±6 years.
Father:
- At this point, I finished placing all of the 2-dimnetional pieces or I may still have only one or few more to go. I think that “Shrimp” is the only one left to complete.
- Some of them are mostly framed pieces (Only from the “Paintings” and “Reliefs” categories: “A Witch In The Form Of A Rooster“, “Longing For United States“, “The Monster” and most reliefs) I already digitized about 3 years ago (?????) and needed only to place it here.
- Many other pieces from the other categories ( “Collages“, “Drawings“, “Papercutting“, “Sculptures“, “Sketches” and in reliefs only “Roman Soldier” and “The Fisherman“) were digitized lately () with few weeks of post processing (such as cropping).
- In the manner of “Goldsmithing” I only partially finished “Earrings” and “The Cobra Snake” β All of them created in 2010. Some were given as a present and some are still with us. All these metal creations were made in a jewelry making class (or simply metal workshop), managed by the artist Gabi Ben Zβano and operated by a teacher (don’t know her name). After this, at late of 2010 or early 2011 I took pictures for memory and preservation. As a result, some pieces that are no loner with us, will be presented by my digitized pictures from 15 years ago, as is or after cropping and fixing them. The other pieces that are still with us were digitized again as a part of my documentation from 3 years ago.

- At this point I have places all of the poems belonging to my mother – These poems were published in 2 books at the 80s. Also, If in fact I will find more ‘unofficial’ poems (meaning, never polished), which have been gathering dust in storage until today, I will place them as well.

My name is Roy Kim (Hebrew: Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’Φ΄Χ Χ§Φ΄ΧΧ) and the common nickname my parents gave me is “Royiki” (Hebrew: Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’Φ΄ΧΧ§Φ΄Χ). Since in the spoken language it is mostly said casually and consonants are not emphasized, my name sounds like “Royki” (Hebrew: Χ¨ΧΦΉΧΧΧ§Φ΄Χ; lacking spelling: “Χ¨ΧΦΉΧΦ°Χ§Φ΄Χ”). my name origins is from the Bible “A psalm of David: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want / I lack nothing” (Hebrew: ΧΦ΄ΧΦ°ΧΧΦΉΧ¨ ΧΦ°ΧΦΈΧΦ΄Χ: ΧΦ°ΧΧΦΈΧ Χ¨ΦΉΧ’Φ΄Χ, ΧΦΉΧ ΧΦΆΧΦ°Χ‘ΦΈΧ¨; Psalm 23:1 [ΧͺΦ°ΦΌΧΦ΄ΧΧΦ΄ΦΌΧΧ Χ”Χ]), when the “shepherd” (Hebrew: Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’ΦΆΧ), is an analogy for a leader. The transformation comes by changing the “Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’ΦΆΧ” (“shepherd”) whish is a noun, into an adposition (Hebrew: Χ©ΧΧΧΧΧͺ) form of adding an “Χ” (“i”) and thereby “Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’ΦΆΧ” becomes “Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’Φ΄Χ” (combination of: Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’Φ΄-Χ) which can also be written in an elongated form as “Χ¨ΧΦΉΧ’ΦΆΧ Χ©ΧΦΆΧΦΌΦ΄Χ” which means “my shepherd”.
The meaning of the name
“”
The original story is that in kindergarten, when the teachers or children would call my name “Roy Kim”, they would say it quickly and without a separation and also drop the “m” and hence, the name “Royki”. Interestingly, in Hebrew, when an “Χ” (“i”) is added in the end of some words/names, it becomes a nickname or a sign of endearment and as such, “Royki”.

Notes:
At this moment, I can pretty much say, that at least 90% of my father’s pieces are already placed with at least one photo to represent them and some with a little information.
Update (Nov 30):
Besides the Goldsmithing that will be be added very soon, I placed other art pieces regarding my father: Altichke, GrasshopperΒ and The Actor (On The Stage).
Update (Dec 1):
Continuing what I did yesterday, today I added the rest of the pieces: Untitled, Menachem Begin (On the Cross), Faces In an Avocado PitsΒ and Caesarea.
Update (Dec 2):
On October 18 and 23 I placed “The Cobra Snake” and “Earrings“, correspondingly, and continued to improve both of them, regarding the pictures and information that needs to be added and still do. Today, I placed, what I think, is all the rest of the Goldsmithing works: Pendant, Pendant β Chinese-Influenced, Pendant β The Breastplate of the High Priest, Ring, Ring II,Β Sliding Ring, BombΓ© Ring, Button EarringsΒ and Pisces / YΔ«n-YΓ‘ng.
For now, all of the art pieces that I added, as mentioned under these 3 updates, are basically empty and only placed here. Later on, I’ll put information and pictures.
In conclusion, I think that at this point, the entire collection of my father is placed.
Update (2026 Jun 20):
After I have placed my father’s pieces (at least almost all if not everything) I also long wanted to include the pieces of my mother. Thereby, as of 2 days ago (6/18/2026) I stated to populate my mother’s sections as well and today I fairly, finished. All the ”published’ poems are in place and currently, I am in the middle of the process of translating them. For the entire digitized-transcribed and translated poems, do not go for the main category, Poetry, but rather to the compilation page (the entire poems): ΧΧ©ΧΧ¨ΧΧ Χ©Χ ΧΧΧ.
I also included my mom’s Gobelins (i.e. embroideries). Unfortunately, for now, there isn’t a single survivor of her embroideries, neither the finished pieces, nor some experiments (or drafts). However, I decided to include this category anyway.
- All above is the main reason that I created my website, which is to have a showcase to my entire portfolio which also naturally continued to the showcase of my father’s and mother’s entire portfolio. In this way it could simply be described as the “apple didn’t fall far from the tree”.
